Two Part Treatment

Explanation of 2-Part Orthodontic Treatment

Some children could greatly benefit from 2-Part Orthodontic Treatment. This means that they will have a short First Phase of orthodontic treatment to correct a specific problem and a Second Phase of treatment to fully correct the bite and achieve an ideal relationship between all the permanent teeth.

Early treatment (Phase I treatment) is designed to prevent more serious problems from developing and make future treatment more predictable and less complicated. Phase I treatment can be completed in 8-10 months.

There are early warning signs that when detected indicate that some intervention is needed to control the problem rather than waiting and letting things get worse. Some of the common problems are as follows:

1. Crossbite or Underbite
2. Crowding, misplaced or blocked-out teeth
3. Protruding teeth
4. Early or late loss of baby teeth
5. Jaws that shift, make sounds, protrude or are recessed
6. Finger sucking or other oral habits
7. Missing or extra teeth
8. Teeth that meet in an abnormal way or not at all

Early treatment will give your orthodontist the chance to:

1. Create a healthy arch form
2. Lower the risk of trauma to protruded front teeth
3. Correct harmful oral habits
4. Improve appearance
5. Guide permanent teeth into a more favorable position
